Sulfate Free Dandruff Shampoo: Doing Away With Dandruff Problems

Prior to the Advent of the Sulfate Free Dandruff Shampoo

Dandruff is one childhood ailment that was easily treated. I normally get it so often that it had become second nature to me. After a few hours in the sun, doing a rigorous game of volleyball with friends, my scalp starts turning red and began to itch. This also happens during the Christmas holidays when the air was cold and I get exposed to extreme humidity. The next thing I knew was that my scalp gets itchy starting from the top and down to the ear portion area. I normally solved this minor irritation by brushing my hair a few strokes and the itchiness will disappear - for a while. After a few hours, the scenario will repeat itself again, and my scalp gets to turn for the worst this time, from constant scratching.

Scratching your head is not a major thing when you are a youngster. What it just meant, is that your head is itchy.

But as you grow older and enter into college, where you have to knock heads with your professors and compete with the rest of the student populace, scratching one's head becomes a problem. It is a sign of emptiness in the grey portion area! It is the most common sign of stupidity and moronic behavior! Scratching any part of your body is a sign of weakness. Smart people do not scratch any body part. The body parts move and flow in a specific and well coordinated fashion. Hence, dandruff with all its inherent problems, became one daunting personal issue that had to be solve immediately.

The times then were easy. My middle-class parents bought us a shampoo that was known for dandruff control. The name of the product was Head and Shoulders shampoo. It was quite effective, and it gets to clean a teenager's hair real fast. After shampooing, the hair becomes squeaky clean and fresh smelling. To avoid the recurrence of dandruff, we were made to change shampoo once a month so we do not get used to one type of shampoo. However, there were times when we forget, and in those times our scalps really got itchy. Again, this was solved very fast by the use of another anti dandruff shampoo which was stronger this time. We were made to use Nizoral Medicated shampoo to control the itch and the flakes that gets to build up in our scalps. Head and Shoulders plus the intermittent use of Nizoral shampoo got to solved most of our dandruff problems.

The Era of the Sulfate Free Dandruff Shampoo

Before the era of the sulfate-free shampoo, all we knew about washing our hair was that it should be squeaky and soft right after bathing. We never minded what ingredients were used in the bath soaps nor of the shampoo that we used to cleanse our hair. If we come out of the showers, no longer itching from any body part, then we have performed our bathing rituals perfectly well. What we did then was soap ourselves twice, to get the grime out, and; shampoo twice, to ensure that our hairs were squeaky and shining clean.

The present time however, is more critical of what we use in our bodies to cleanse ourselves. A thorough medical study was made that showed of certain ingredients in bathing essentials that are considered harmful to the body. The use of sulfate, which was a most common cleaning ingredient, in soaps and shampoos are now being questioned for its ill effect on the body. The clamor now for the use of sulfate free shampoo to replace the anti-dandruff shampoos that we have been using for a long time has now come forth. Head and Shoulders shampoo which is a long time favorite till now, was shown to have this harmful component in their fast selling shampoo line. People who have dandruff are now seeking for alternatives products, that are safer to use than the traditional ones.

A number of products, among many others, have cropped up to address the problem as mentioned, and these are:
